TIBETAN HANDICRAFT COOPERATIVE SOCIETY, MCLEOD GANJ is a registered Cooperative society started in the year 1969 with the seed money from Hiss Holiness the Dalai lama. Currently we have 41 working members and 19 retired members in our society. we are owned by our members who each have an equal say in how we are run. Our members are at the heart of our  Co-operative society and they are the foundation of our democratic process. All the workers are the share holders of the society. They elect 5 board of Directors among them and every major and minor decision of the society are taken by the board members. To ensure that the Society’s affairs are conducted in accordance with the Rules, in the best interests of the Society and its members and in accordance with the Co-operative Values and Principles.

The board of Directors does not have any office rather they work in our different units as few of them are weavers making carpets and few are tailor making Tibetan dress in our unit. 

We all work together and share everything together with the consensus of all members. We do not spend a single money without approval of the Board. We have Annual Budget session in which the office present its annual budget proposal and the screening committee look into it and finally get its approval from the board. We have purchasing committee who take cares of all the purchase for our business units. We conduct Three different Audit every year one  from Central Tibetan Administration, another from State Cooperative department and from Chartered Accountant. 

We create jobs for newly arrived Tibetan Refugees and Tibetan who have grown up in exile. We have provided employment to hundreds till now. We trained them at no cost and provide employment after training. We also provide them accommodation , assist in their children’s education,  have pension plan for retired workers, Health Schemes. We bear all the expenses and help needed when any member of our society expired. While  make contribution to the Tibetan Government in Exile. Our workers enjoy 3 months winter holiday when they conduct small business in Indian towns and interested workers can also avail low interest loan from the society. We are registered legal body and in no way condone or employ child labor.

The profit earned by the society is appropriated as per the guidelines of State Govt Act and with the approval of all the members through Annual General Body meeting held every year. The society creates funds for various welfare activities for the members from the profit. The society gives  bonus of 25% of the net profit with the prior permission from Board and from the members. Our society works in a democratic system.

Tibetan Carpet is a very important part of our culture. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has stressed the importance of its preservation repeatedly in exile. And we are proud that we have not only succeeded in preserving  it but also in sharing our cultural heritage with the international community.

We make Hand made Tibetan Carpets of its highest standard. No machines are involved in the process. Any one can visit our place to take a look and to understand how we make our carpets. We have many Tibetan design that can be choose from our catalogue or can give their own design. We are an authorized exporter. We send our product to different parts of the world. Most of our customers are very happy to see our work. Customers comes to our place and they order and we shift their carpet to their given address. Every Morning our weavers starts praying or chanting Buddhist mantra while making carpet so we believe that it brings happiness and good fortune to our customers when they buy from us. Our Tiger Design Carpets have been published in recent Numero fashion magazine Tokyo in October 2022 edition. We make the best Tiger design carpets of three different sizes.  

We make Tibetan Traditional dresses, hand bags, cushion, Tibetan ritual items , etc. in our Tailoring Unit. Our President of the society works in tailoring unit as tailor. 

We have three Outlet shops with all the ritual and gift items for sale. All our staffs are very efficient and dedicated since most of them are sons and daughters of our members.
