Bylakuppe 2 Feb: Dalai Lama-DSI Scholarship 2015-16 was formally launched this morning at TCV School Bylakuppe hall by Shri R Janardhan, Vice President, Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru, Mr. Pema Delek, FTCI Chairman and Mr. Tashi Wangdu, FTCI CEO. Class XII students of SOS TCV and CST Bylakuppe School and parents attended the function.

Mr. Pema Delek in his opening speech remarked, “FTCI and Tibetan Cooperatives are not only working for the livelihood and employment generation but also making effort for advancement of education and healthcare of Tibetan refugees in general and Tibetan cooperative members in particular. This scholarship will benefit many Tibetan students.”

While addressing the students, Mr. Janardhan said, “My University is offering these scholarships to Tibetan students in the view of HH the Dalai Lama’s tremendous contribution for the human kind in general and Tibetan people in particular.” He spoke on innovation and entrepreneurship program, first of its kind degree program, to be started soon by his university. “In the new course,” he said, “Top entrepreneurs will engage with selected students in engineering and help and mentor the student to set up a new company as per student’s idea. By the time student complete 4-year studies, they not only have knowledge but also have a firm.” He went on to say; since Bengaluru is new start-up capital of this world, Tibetan student must grab the opportunity at his university. He also said selection for Dalai Lama-DSI Scholarship will be done on the basis of entrance test, XII marks and record on participation in extra curriculum activities.

Mr. Tashi Wangdu in his closing remark underlined that 75 scholarships are offered for medical, management and engineering courses. He also said individual value of this scholarship will cover 90% of college fees and total value of whole 75 scholarship program is estimated at 50 Million rupees.
